Latest Updated On 02/02/2026: The prospects of appointment have improved for the candidates who filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the vacant 656 seats in the recruitment of 12,460 assistant teachers in the state's primary schools. During the hearing on 29 January, the Supreme Court issued crucial directives to the state government, instructing it to prepare a district-wise merit list of the appellants and intervenors involved in the recruitment process and submit it to the court. This list will be prepared according to the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education (Teachers) Service Rules, 1981.

The court clarified that the merit list will be determined based on the date of the advertisement, 15 December 2016. The court also indicated that appropriate orders regarding the joining of the candidates may be passed after the list is submitted. This order has given hope to the candidates who have been waiting for their appointments for almost nine years. The Supreme Court has asked for the list to be submitted till 18 March so that further action can be considered. The advertisement for the recruitment of 12,460 teachers was issued on 15 December 2016, before the 2017 assembly elections. The first phase of counseling was held on 16 March 2017, and on 1 May 2018, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 6,512 candidates from 51 districts.
RO/ARO Main Examination begins today in Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission's Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) 2023 main examination will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday in Lucknow. 13 examination centers have been set up in the capital city for the 6142 candidates appearing for the main examination. More than 100 candidates are appearing for the exam following a High Court order. On Monday, the General Studies paper will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, while the afternoon session will include a subjective Hindi drafting paper from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, followed by an objective test on general vocabulary and grammar from 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM. On Tuesday, the Hindi Essay paper will be held from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
