Latest Updated On 28/04/2025:  Now admission in physiotherapy course will be done through NEET-UG only. This course will be of five years like MBBS. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released a notification making the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate mandatory for admission to this course in government and reputed private institutions. Now it will be mandatory for physiotherapists to put Doctor before their name and PT i.e. Physiotherapist after that.

A separate physiotherapy department will be opened


Dr. Ratnesh Chaudhary, Professor of Physiotherapy Department at IGIMS, said that after the passage of this bill, a separate physiotherapy department will open in every hospital and it will also have separate registration. Physiotherapist doctors will have to appear for an examination every three years to increase their knowledge. Their education and clinical cadre will be separate. An independent physiotherapy department has been functioning in IGIMS for 25 years.


Dr. Ratnesh Chaudhary, Professor of Physiotherapy Department at IGIMS and Dr. Ajit Kumar, Physiotherapist at LNJP said that this will not only improve the level of the course but also the quality of employment opportunities. Adding doctor before the name gives prestige in the society, while adding PT later will reveal whether they are surgeon, physician or physiotherapist. The basis of this notification is the Health and Allied Health Care Bill-2021 passed by the Indian Parliament.
