One professor of surgery, Dr. SK Chaurasia, is the principal of the medical college and another professor, Dr. DK Gindoria, is the superintendent. There are no professors in any other department. If the officials are to be believed, the shortage of professors in most departments of the medical college is a big question mark on the quality of education here. In such a situation, it does not seem possible to increase MBBS seats here.
This month, medicine will also be without a professor: This month, the medicine department, which is considered the pillar of this medical college, will also be without a professor. Professor Dr UK Ojha working here is going to retire at the end of this month. After his retirement, only associate and assistant professors will be left in the department. Major departments like orthopedics, pediatrics, dermatology, pathology, radiology, PSM, microbiology etc. are already without professors.
Even 100 seats are in trouble
If the medical college officials are to be believed, forget about 150, it is becoming difficult to save even 100 MBBS seats here. If the situation remains the same, the National Medical Commission can reduce the seats here to 50 again. This has happened here before as well. On the condition of removing the deficiencies, this medical college with 50 seats was given permission by the National Medical Commission (then Medical Council of India) to enroll on 100 seats in the year 2013. The deficiencies were not removed, due to which the seats here were again reduced to 50 in the year 2017. After a lot of struggle, it has got permission to enroll on 100 seats in the year 2023.
