Latest Updated On 02/09/2025: Supreme Court said on Monday that it is compulsory for the teachers to pass the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) to remain in the service or to get promoted.
- They will have to pass the teacher eligibility test within two years
- If they do not do so, they will have to the resign
The court said that teachers appointed before the Right to Education Act came into force and who have more than five years left in service will have to pass the TET in two years. If a teacher fails to pass the TET within the stipulated time limit, he will have to resign or he can be forcibly retired.
Those who have less than 5 years left in the service do not need to pass the TET, but they will not get promotion in this period. The bench gave its verdict on 87 appeals of Anjuman Ishat-e-Taleem Trust vs Maharashtra Government etc.
