Latest Updated On 25/10/2025: There's good news for students preparing for a career in the nursing sector. 1,790 nursing seats are set to be added to the state's 39 nursing colleges. The Empowered Committee, constituted to administer nursing courses, met at the Secretariat on Friday and recommended this proposal. After formal approval from the Health Minister, formal permission will be issued to the colleges.

The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, also saw some important decisions regarding nursing courses and the establishment of new colleges. Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar presented details of nursing seats. He stated that the total number of nurses registered with the State Nursing Council by 2024 is 21,541. Currently, 9,806 individuals are undergoing nursing training in government and private nursing colleges. The state's hospital bed capacity is approximately 58,000. Consequently, there is still considerable potential for an increase in nursing staff in the state.

It takes considerable time to process applications from various institutions across the state at the district, DGP, and government levels. A single-window system will simplify this process and expedite decision-making. Finance Secretary Dilip Jawalkar was also present.
