Latest Updated On 01/10/2025: Vacancies will soon be announced for the appointment of over four thousand librarians in the state's higher secondary schools. The Education Department has received vacancies for librarian appointments from all districts. The Education Department is now clearing the roster for the positions received from the districts. Once the roster is cleared, the vacancy will be submitted to the BPSC. The BPSC will then accept applications from eligible candidates.

Librarians will be appointed on the same lines as school assistants. To this end, the state government recently approved the Bihar School Librarian (Appointment, Transfer, Disciplinary Action and Service Conditions) Rules, 2025. It is noteworthy that the Education Department recently sent a letter to the Bihar School Examination Board, requesting them to conduct a librarian eligibility test. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in library science from a recognized university with a minimum of 45% marks. Candidates from SC, ST, Extremely Backward Classes, Backward Classes, Disabled, Women, and Economically Weaker Sections will receive a 5% relaxation in the minimum required marks.

Passing the librarian eligibility test is mandatory. The minimum age must be 21 years on August 1st of the year of appointment. The upper age limit will be relaxed by 10 years in the first transaction following the implementation of these regulations. A candidate may appear for the examination under these regulations a maximum of five times.
