Latest Updated On 07/08/2025: Out of a total of 82,277 posts in Jharkhand Police, 23673 posts are currently vacant. These vacancies are from Class IV employees to Inspector posts. According to the state government, these vacancies are to be filled through direct recruitment and promotion. There is direct recruitment in the police as Class IV, constable and sub-inspector. At the same time, the vacant posts of constable to jamadar, jamadar to sub-inspector (50 percent promotion) and inspector are filled through promotion. The government will soon send a requisition to the departments for appointment to these vacant posts.

Recruitment will be done simultaneously on police and equivalent posts: The state government has amended the joint recruitment process for all the equivalent posts of constable and constable in Jharkhand Police, such as excise constable, chamberman, forest guard, constable in Home Guard and has formed a new joint recruitment manual 2025. According to the state government, after the formation of the new manual, the previously published advertisement of constable has been canceled. The state government has approved in the cabinet, according to which the former applicants have been given relaxation in age limit as well as fee in the first joint recruitment process.

The state government will now send a requisition to fill the vacancies on constable and equivalent posts. This matter is still under process. Although the written examination is to be conducted in Jharkhand Excise Constable Competition Examination 2023, the vacancies after the completion of this examination process will be filled only through the new joint recruitment rules.
The Bureau of Police Research and Development of the Government of India assesses the number of police forces and the facilities provided to them across the country. According to the report of BPRND released in the year 2023, there are 211.04 policemen per lakh in Jharkhand. On the other hand, an average of 0.96 policemen are deployed per kilometer. This figure is not as per expectations.
